Lumineers Overview

Do you wish to transform your smile? If that is the case, Bass River Dental in South Yarmouth, MA may be the place to start — courtesy of the gold standard in veneers called Lumineers. While there are many similarities between Lumineers and traditional veneers, there are also some important differences that set them apart. Overall, what makes Lumineers so amazing is how they are unbelievably thin, measuring in at about 0.2 mm. Traditional veneers are generally much thicker, requiring your tooth to be sanded down to make room for it. Fortunately, Lumineers are so paper thin that it is no longer necessary for Dr. Peter Russo to file down your teeth to complete the procedure. In addition, Lumineers are more translucent than other veneers, so they appear more natural while remaining tough enough to last over two decades.

Best Candidates for Lumineers

If you have a desire to fix cosmetic imperfections on your teeth you are likely a good candidate for Lumineers. However, there are a few factors which will need to be determined before the procedure can be initiated. At your consultation at Bass River Dental, we will determine if your teeth are healthy and free of cavities. This is important since your teeth are not being replaced, but merely capped. Therefore, the teeth supporting the veneers must be free from decay. You also need to have a bite that is aligned. While Lumineers are widely called "instant orthodontics," they can only do so much for poor alignment. So, if you have a severe over/underbite, traditional braces may be a better solution for now. Those with severe bruxism or teeth grinding may not be suited for Lumineers.

What To Expect with Lumineers®

At your consultation, we will carefully create an exact mold of your teeth to be sent to the Lumineers lab where they will be created. We will work with you to determine the tooth shade that matches best your existing teeth while helping to meet your expectations. Since there is no need to shape your teeth to adhere your Lumineers, you won't need to be fitted with temporary veneers while you wait for the permanent ones to be created. After your Lumineers are complete, you will return to Bass River Dental to apply them during a painless procedure that does not entail shots, grinding, or drilling. This high-tech bonding procedure will reveal outstanding results while your entire tooth will remain intact underneath.

Lumineers Follow-Up

Since they are customized to your mouth, there is no period of adjustment after receiving them. You will be able to eat and drink what you want (within reason) with confidence since Lumineers are adhered in a durable manner. However, it is still important that you do not bite down too hard on things like ice or hard candy. Since the process is so simple and noninvasive, there is usually no recovery period to be concerned with, as there is traditional veneers. Lumineers will still need to be cared for just like your natural teeth, so be sure to brush and floss daily, and keep regularly scheduled visits to Bass River Dental every six months for routine maintenance and care.

Lumineers Insurance Coverage

Since Lumineers are considered a cosmetic procedure, they are typically not covered by dental insurance providers. Bass River Dental does accept many payment methods, including medical financing to help make your treatment easier to afford. During your consultation, your treatment plan will be customized to fit your goals. We will go over an estimate of your treatment cost and explain your payment options.
