If you or your child plays a high-impact sport (such as football, soccer, boxing, hockey, baseball, or wrestling), then dentist Dr. Peter Russo highly recommends a custom mouth guard to protect your teeth, gums, and jaw. Unlike generic mouth guards bought at the store, custom mouth guards from Bass River Dental will be molded and fit for you, making it more comfortable and effective. If you want to reduce the risk of damage to your mouth, we encourage you to contact Bass River Dental in South Yarmouth, MA for more information about custom mouth guards.
Mouth guards are important if you or your child plays a sport that involves high contact or has a high risk of injury. Many of our patients participate in football, martial arts, volleyball, soccer, hockey, softball, wrestling, and other contact sports. A mouth guard can be especially helpful if you have braces or dental restorations since these can easily cut your gums and the soft tissue lining your mouth. Mouth guards have also been proven to help athletes in non-contact sports (running, yoga, weight training) by decreasing tension on the jaw. Since a custom mouth guard is made especially for your needs, it typically fits better and lasts longer than stock or boil and bite mouth protectors available at sporting goods stores.

"After more than 6 months, Aspen Dental could not make my dentures fit. I fired them and chose the closest dentist to my home. It was Bass River.... after going toothless for so long and making so many trips to Aspen for adjustments that did nothing, I had lost hope. Dr Pete and crew not only managed to make my dentures wearable but they laugh at my jokes too! Thanks"- M.S. / Google / May 01, 2021

What to Expect
To create your mouth guard, we will take a series of digital or physical impressions of your mouth. Your impressions will be sent off to a dental laboratory where your mouth guard will be carefully crafted from durable, high-quality materials. Once made and sent back to our office, you will come back to our office for a fitting. We will make sure that your guard fits properly and feels comfortable.
Once you receive your mouth guard, it is important to wear it while playing sports or any time your mouth needs protection. Caring for your mouth guard will be crucial in preserving its lifespan. It is important to store it in a safe place and clean it before and after use. We will go over the best way to clean your mouth guard based on the materials used. You should bring it with you to every dental appointment so its condition can be inspected and we can tell you when a replacement is needed.
During your consultation, we can go over your options and costs. Bass River Dental accepts many payment methods and we can help you find low-interest medical financing. Dental insurance may cover some of the cost, so we will contact your provider to determine your exact benefits and estimate your out-of-pocket costs.
