What are dental sealants?
Dental sealants are a simple way to guard against tooth decay and cavities. Sealants are thin, pliable plastic materials that can be applied to the tops of the back teeth (premolars and molars). After they are positioned, dental sealants block out bacteria, tartar, plaque, and food particles to prevent many dental problems, like cavities. Sealants can last years if they are cared for properly with an effective home oral hygiene routine. Not only can sealants improve your oral hygiene and prevent cavities, but they can also save money at future dental visits at Bass River Dental. Talk to Dr. Peter Russo during your appointment in our South Yarmouth, MA office to decide if sealants are right for you or your child.
"The best staff. So professional and helpful!!"- T.D. / Facebook / May 26, 2021
"After more than 6 months, Aspen Dental could not make my dentures fit. I fired them and chose the closest dentist to my home. It was Bass River.... after going toothless for so long and making so many trips to Aspen for adjustments that did nothing, I had lost hope. Dr Pete and crew not only managed to make my dentures wearable but they laugh at my jokes too! Thanks"- M.S. / Google / May 01, 2021
"As a new patient I found It was a wonderful, homey, friendly, down to earth office. Felt very comfortable and well cared for. The office staff, Dr. Russo and my hygienist Kelly Holland were terrific. She was thorough, professional, knowledgeable and kind. It was a very positive experience all around. Would recommend this dental office with no reservations."- J.C. / Google / Apr 30, 2021
"The best experience I’ve had with a dental clinic in a very long time. From reception to the hygienist- which she did the most comprehensive and deep cleaning of my teeth EVER. The dentist is easy going and skilled. Very pleasant experience even through extractions. The dental assistant is so efficient that the doctor rarely has to ask for something. She has it in hand before he has to. Unlike my last dentist who had to ask (seemingly unassured) what he needed next. Sometimes leaving me alone to search for what was needed from another room. I’m very happy I have found #bassriverdental @bassriverdental to restore the multiple problems my last dentist left me with. They also take dental insurance !!! Great experience all around. Who should get Dental Sealants?
Ideal candidates for dental sealants would be anyone who is prone to getting tooth decay or cavities. Most often, sealants are recommended for young children and teenagers who may have a more difficult time maintaining regular teeth brushing habits. Sealant application is a fast, simple treatment that typically requires no anesthesia or sedation, which makes it an easy procedure for patients of any age.
What happens during dental sealant treatment?
During your consultation, we will first need to assess your teeth to determine if sealants are the right treatment for you. Prior to the actual application, your teeth will be cleaned to remove plaque, bacteria, and tartar. Then we will apply the sealant with a small brush and set it with a special light. After the application, we will ensure that the sealant has settled correctly.
What happens after dental sealant treatment?
Following the procedure, you should be able to return to your normal routine. It is important that you follow a regular oral hygiene routine, including brushing twice a day, using mouthwash, and flossing. You should also avoid putting pressure on your teeth or eating sticky foods. With proper care, sealants can be long lasting. During your annual exam at Bass River Dental, we will determine if the sealants need to be re-applied.
Will Insurance Cover dental sealants?
Sealants are a preventive procedure and most insurance companies cover some or all of the cost for younger patients. Coverage will vary, especially in older patients, so our office will determine your exact coverage by contacting your insurance and then calculating your out-of-pocket costs. Bass River Dental accepts many different payment methods and we can help you with medical financing if needed.
