What are digital x-rays?
Digital x-rays, also known as digital radiographs, are administered during a dental exam to allow a better view of your teeth and gums. They allow your dentist, Dr. Peter Russo, to diagnose problems that are not visible, and to learn about the health of the inside of your teeth, gums, and jawbone. There are numerous dental and oral problems that can be seen on digital x-rays such as tooth decay, cavities, cysts, abscesses, bone loss, and tooth impaction. When these problems are found early, they can be treated more efficiently with more treatment options. During your dental exam at Bass River Dental in South Yarmouth, MA, digital x-rays will help our team of dental professionals more accurately diagnose and treat oral health issues.
"The best staff. So professional and helpful!!"- T.D. / Facebook / May 26, 2021
"After more than 6 months, Aspen Dental could not make my dentures fit. I fired them and chose the closest dentist to my home. It was Bass River.... after going toothless for so long and making so many trips to Aspen for adjustments that did nothing, I had lost hope. Dr Pete and crew not only managed to make my dentures wearable but they laugh at my jokes too! Thanks"- M.S. / Google / May 01, 2021
"As a new patient I found It was a wonderful, homey, friendly, down to earth office. Felt very comfortable and well cared for. The office staff, Dr. Russo and my hygienist Kelly Holland were terrific. She was thorough, professional, knowledgeable and kind. It was a very positive experience all around. Would recommend this dental office with no reservations."- J.C. / Google / Apr 30, 2021
"The best experience I’ve had with a dental clinic in a very long time. From reception to the hygienist- which she did the most comprehensive and deep cleaning of my teeth EVER. The dentist is easy going and skilled. Very pleasant experience even through extractions. The dental assistant is so efficient that the doctor rarely has to ask for something. She has it in hand before he has to. Unlike my last dentist who had to ask (seemingly unassured) what he needed next. Sometimes leaving me alone to search for what was needed from another room. I’m very happy I have found #bassriverdental @bassriverdental to restore the multiple problems my last dentist left me with. They also take dental insurance !!! Great experience all around. Who should get dental x-rays?
In general, digital x-rays are a part of a routine dental exam. They can be administered as a preventive measure or if you are experiencing dental issues of any kind. Though digital x-rays use less radiation than traditional x-rays, Bass River Dental prefers to minimize the amount of exposure that is delivered to every patient. While they are typically safe for any patient, women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should tell us at the beginning of the exam so that extra precautions can be taken.
What happens during an x-ray?
Typically done at the beginning of a dental cleaning or exam, digital x-rays take about 5 – 10 minutes to complete. Most patients will have a series of x-rays taken to include all areas of the mouth. After they are taken, they are uploaded and can be viewed by you and Dr. Russo during your appointment. He will be able to assess if there are any abnormalities and discuss what treatments may be needed.
How often do I need DIGITAL X-RAYS?
A series of digital x-rays will typically be taken once a year at your annual dental exam. During some visits, a whole mouth series may be taken to get a comprehensive view of the teeth, gums, and jawbone. Your digital x-rays will be kept with your file at Bass River Dental so we can watch for changes over time and chart any areas of concern.
Will Insurance Cover DIGITAL X-RAYS?
Typically, a dental insurance plan will cover the cost of digital x-rays as part of a routine dental exam. Our office will contact your insurance provider to determine any costs. For any out-of-pocket expenses or if you don't have dental insurance, Bass River Dental accepts many payment methods and we can help you find medical financing.
